As I attempt to get used to writing, I've decided to blog about little "nothings" that happen throughout every day.

Fizzz
Lately I've really been into this new beverage called FizzEd. It is this amazing combination of 70% fruit juice and carbonated water. When I first saw this on the shelf, I really didn't know what to think of it. It promises that it is "all natural, packed with pure juice and contains no artificial colors, preservatives or high fructose corn syrup." (from the can) I was really nervous about this new drink, since it was something I had never seen before and a lot of times labels promise things that aren't true. However, when I took home the box of four, I realized that this was perhaps one of the most amazing fizzy drinks ever. At only 100 calories per can (or 90 if you get the raspberry kind), the green apple flavor definitely hits the spot, with just the right balance of carbonation and fruity decadence. It is definitely better than any kind of soda, because just one can quenches your thirst. The only downside to this product is that the case only comes with four cans and it is pretty expensive. Juice is probably a lot cheaper. It's just really yummy. I really respect the fact that there isn't any high fructose corn syrup and the ingredients list is funny ( filtered water sufficient to reconstitute apple, white grape, lemon and acerola juice concentrates). I don't know if it is supposed to be written like that, but it makes me laugh anyway.

Watching TV When Hungry
Today was a weird day of television watching for me. Not that they don't happen often, but usually TV isn't that big of a priority. I think because in college I was usually doing things, so I never really got the chance to sit down and watch too much (besides, if I wanted to watch something, I'd go online).
It all started when I woke up this morning. I had breakfast, sat down on the couch, and then somehow turned on the Travel Channel. The Travel Channel is one of those bizarre channels where one day you can be transfixed for hours, watching weird shows where someone goes all over the world/country to look for things or visit hidden landmarks. The show that was on was The World's Most Unique McDonald's or something on those lines. I never knew that there was anything remotely interesting about that fast food restaurant, but some of these franchises just blew me away. One I particularly liked was one in Lafayette, (or is it Lafayetteville?) IN. Now this place just takes McDonald's to a WHOLE new level. Here, you get waited on, there's an actually menu that you order from (like in a diner), AND you can order things like steak (which actually looked decent). You aren't allowed to leave a tip and you order through this telephone that is at every table.
If this is ever on, you have to watch it. There are ten that they go through, and each one is as unique as they come.
It would be a fascinating story if I just so happened to watch just that one show, but of course, being the television junkie that I was today, I just so happened to glance at what came next. It was Top Ten Places to Pig Out, which sounded amazing to me. This show focused on places all throughout the country that have contests to see who could eat the most of one of their famous dishes. The foods ranged from omelettes and pancakes to high piled cheesburgers and incredibly large sundaes (which I have, not wholeheartedly, tried before). If you are hungry, beware because you will develop immense cravings for food (like pancakes or pizza).

This is the McDonald's mentioned above. There is a diner inside!!
Over there-----> One of the challenges that were spotlighted in the Places to Pig Out television special ( I don't know why it decided to go over there)

Wanted
So today, I saw another new movie, and I have to say, I really hate matinee times at my local theater. People are just so annoying, like this lady who kept commenting on the various parts of the movie, such as the actors/characters and the action sequences. Why do these people exist? Why can't people just realize that when you're in a movie theater, you are supposed to watch the movie and be a little respectful of people around you?
The movie that I got the chance to watch was Wanted, the new film starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman. Quite frankly, this movie made me want to go around and start shooting things (not that I would, only because I'm pretty sure the stunts that were attempted in this movie could not actually happen in real life).
The film starts with a weird tone, where we meet a random guy who can run at a super fast speed and can jump from the window of one skyscraper to another one across the street. I had my doubts at this moment, because it seemed like some weird Matrix ripoff.
However, even though there are a lot of similarities between the two, the films couldn't be more different. After this exciting moment, we meet Wesley, a depressed accountant with a tiny cubicle, suffocating boss, and an unfaithful girlfriend. His life is a monotonous cycle of work and anxiety attacks. He is on a downward spiral, until he meets Angelina Jolie in a drugstore, where he gets stuck in the middle between her character and Cross, the villain. He gets taken to a weird building where he learns about who he is and what he has to do.
From this point onward, the spectators get to experience a lot of action. I'm not going to give any more away, because that will just ruin it. If you are into action sequences, this is the movie to see. There are numerous scenes that are pure exhilaration and violence, with cool slow motion moments and bullet piercings. Even though it is shown in the trailer, there isn't any romantic connection between Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy, so don't expect too much. (Sorry, I just had to address it in case you were looking forward to it)
Two tips before you go out and see it: It's rated R for a reason, so make sure whoever is with you will be mature enough to handle it.
Don't say obnoxious things, such as, "Wow, Angelina Jolie is so pretty" or "That was such a cool gun move." People around you will hate you, and I say that in the nicest way possible.

Wall-E
Tonight I had the pleasure of seeing the new film Wall-E by Pixar. I have to say, even throughout the years, Pixar seems to always get things right. From start to finish, including the very funny short film in the beginning, which stars a magician and his infamous "pulling a rabbit out of his hat" trick, the film is, in one simple word, moving. The music, which basically consisted of old jazz tunes, alone made me feel emotions that were weird for a children's film.
I don't want to give away too much, seeing as it is opening weekend (and nobody wants to have a film spoiled the first few days it premiers) and I always hate reviews that go more into the story than into everything else.

This movie hides a very eye-opening message of what could happen to our home planet if we continue on this path we are following today, and it isn't very hidden. The atmosphere is littered with satellites, the ground is a huge dumping ground of waste and smog, and the only "living" creature still alive is a cockroach. But we meet Wall-E, a smart robot initially designed to help clean the planet, along with comrades who lie motionless amongst the rubbish. We find that he keeps random interesting objects in a makeshift home and he loves the musical Hello Dolly. For someone who loves old musicals and movies from that time period, it gave me great satisfaction to see the combination of the old and the new.
On a normal day, strange incidents regarding a light and a rocket suddenly occur, and we meet the new robot, EVE, a probe looking for life, who just so happens to be the object of affection for Wall-E after first sight. From there, the audience is jetted off to the modern human civilization, run almost completely by robotics, who have no understanding of anything besides videochatting and moving around on hovercrafts. I don't want to give any more than that away, mostly because I want people to see the movie and not find out the ending. You have to see this. It is one of the greatest Pixar films I have ever seen, and I love Pixar films. There isn't one that I have hated so far.

VH1 and other news
The great news of today is...I have no more jury duty!! I didn't have to go once. I consider myself lucky and if I fill out the little questionnaire thing, I don't have to go for another four years. Is that awesome or what? I'm a little disappointed actually. I had visions of going into the courthouse, sitting down, listening to a riveting case, and deciding whether or not that person was guilty. In my vision, however, it was a really controversial case that desperately needed the jury. But, I live in this tiny county, so nothing that controversial happens, besides robberies and gang fights (which only happened once!). If I was back at school and lived there permanently, you never know what kind of case I'd have to go to.
Anyway, today I had this amazing chance to laze around and do absolutely nothing, which gave me a chance to watch shows early in the morning (at around 10 or so). For most people, that's late, but I am still trying to get into a normal cycle (which will only be broken when I get back to school). VH1, corny as it is, really has its moments sometimes, as shown today by their show "I Love the New Millennium." It was really funny! It's like all their other shows, like "I Love the 80s" where they rip apart and make fun of weird fads and trends that happened, except it was only two years ago. It's hilarious what can be found funny about two years ago since it was so recent. For an added bonus that made me laugh even more, Ben Lee, one of my sister and I's favorite songwriters, commented on a lot of things, like Borat, and Daniel Powter's song "Bad Day". If this is ever on, you should definitely tune in. It made my day very entertaining.
Has anyone heard that new song Pork and Beans by Weezer? I don't know why, but I find it very good, especially their video for it, which is a very clever compilation of online video stars. I'm not even that big of a fan of Weezer's new hits. That Beverly Hills song drives me completely insane. It's just awful. I absolutely love the first album (or whatever one it was that my sister gave me). Buddy Holly will always be one of my favorite songs of all time. Here's their new song, Pork and Beans.

Shows
What is it with reality shows lately? I don't know how, or when, but they totally took over the television network. Since they debuted nearly a decade ago (or is it longer than that? I'm not really sure), the ideas for them have gotten stupider and stupider. I have been reading tons of articles about new concepts and I have to say, they are hitting new lows. There was one where city girls tried to win the heart of a true countryman. I don't know what they were thinking, because really, if I lived in the city, I would definitely not want to go for a guy who makes me work, especially in a field. Celebs like Paris Hilton and Brody Jenner (who both have had reality shows before) are making new reality shows for new best friends. I'm sorry, but if you have to have a reality show for a new best friend, you are doing something wrong. Don't get me wrong, some of them are really alluring. I love shows like What Not to Wear (because who wouldn't want to have a $5,000 shopping spree and a cool makeover?) and Trading Spaces, where you learn cool cheap ideas for renovating rooms (not that I've ever put them to use or anything). Even shows like Hell's Kitchen on Fox are pretty entertaining, where a ruthless chef tries to find a head honcho for a new restaurant of his. Beauty and the Geek is pretty funny too, where ditzy girls team up with brainiac guys to complete tasks. Who will ever forget Richard of season 1, a guy so geeky that he seemed unreal? I even sometimes get pulled into shows where they dance and sing, both of which sound completely awful in theory. Actually, now that I think about it, I watch a lot of reality shows. Why are they taking over the television networks??? I prefer shows with decent plot lines, like The Office. I love The Office. I'm pretty sure everyone loves that show. Me and my sister have like this inseparable bond because of The Office, not that there wasn't one before or anything. For that, I am totally putting in one of my favorite clips from that show.

Salons
So I escaped another day without jury duty. I am so excited, not that I do much in a day anyway. Actually, tomorrow I do have things to accomplish, so you know, maybe tomorrow was a bad day to get out of it. I hate this stupid system. Like, what good does it do to have innocent people go and watch stupid small claims cases? I don't really know what kind of things we get to observe, but if it is that, I'm complaining.

Today, I got my hair cut. I know for normal people, this is an ordinary thing that happens every 6 weeks, but like I have said numerous times, I am not normal. I am one of those people who go like 6 months instead. I don't know why really, but I have this horrendous fear of salons. I used to be terrified of them when I was little too, but I think that had more to do with the fact that absolute strangers were cutting my hair instead of what I fear now. It all started when I had to get my hair done at the last minute by a local salon. I thought, This can't be too bad, they know what they are doing. Never, for any reason, trust a salon you've never been to. Instead of doing my hair like I asked, they managed to ruin my bangs forever. For about a year, I had to deal with razored strands of hair, all of which were different lengths, and a huge chunk that had been cut out. If you have ever had bangs before, you know how awful it is to have to wait for your hair to grow around a piece that is missing. Actually, no, if you have had bangs, you shouldn't have had to deal with that! It was one of the worst moments of my life.
Today was totally different. The lady was really nice and experienced. I told her what I wanted and she did it, no questions asked. The result was fantastic and it didn't even take more than half an hour to be done. It makes me question how people get hired for salon jobs.

Do you see what can happen to your hair if you go to the wrong salon??!
Don't let this happen to you!

Movie Site
Another day getting out of jury duty makes me incredibly happy. I have five days left to go. Woohoo! I am making progress. I wonder if my luck will hold out, though. I have heard lots of tales of people who got out of like four days but then had to go. Hopefully, that isn't me.
So lately I have been checking out this website called denofgeek.com. It is this amazing website that reviews movies, television, games, and books. One of the many interesting things about it is the top ten lists. I really get excited when an article comes out for them, whether its Top 10 Forgotten British Fantasy Moments or Top 10 Mad Scientists or even Top 10 Movie Spoofs. They are lists of movies that really show how much these guys really know about their film. Lots of other really fun articles litter this site, such as Ready Reckoners, where the writers delve into the careers of certain writers or actors.
I was surprised when I first went to the site, because they shared a lot of the same views as I did on certain movies. Even though there are a lot of things I disagree with, such as their statement that all Meg Ryan movies are crap, it is always really interesting to hear their views on movies. I think that I disagree with them on subjects like the aforementioned only because the site is dominated by male writers. There are a few female ones, but only some. I'm a girl, so I have different opinions on romantic comedies. Like most girls out there, they are simply fantastic, no matter how bad they are. In fact, when they are really bad, they are really good due to how bad they actually are.
I like how I can read an article in my local newspaper that absolutely rips new movies to shreds and then head online and get an accurate review on this website. For instance, Get Smart was totally trashed in the paper I read. I went to see it anyway, and I totally had a different stance on the film, even though some things I agreed on. I went online, and they gave it a lot more credit that the film totally deserved.
If you are a film geek, or really, any kind of geek for that matter, you should definitely head to this site. It will be worth your while.

Annoyances at a Theater
When going to the movie theater, there are things you expect to encounter, such as annoying people chewing obnoxiously loud behind you, random cell phone calls that need to be silenced, and annoying whispering about what is going on on the screen. It is rare to dodge these things, especially with the launch of a new movie. However, there are some things that indeed need to be addressed that we, as spectators, shouldn't have to deal with, especially when paying almost $1o a ticket.

Today I had the pleasure of seeing the remake of the popular television series of the 60s, "Get Smart". I had heard so many bad reviews of the film, and while I agree with some, I don't exactly agree that it is a terrible movie. It is entertaining, has good laughs that families will enjoy, and the plot is not stretched too thin. However, I am not here to review a movie.
Why do people drag along mentally handicapped people to the movie theater? I don't know if this occurs frequently, but in the local theater I visit, this happens often. I can understand that sometimes it would be a treat to bring them to the movies, I understand this. But it's the individuals who I hear behind me, making unclear noises and screaming for no reason in particular, that I really get in a tiff about. I know they probably have no idea what is going on in the screen in front of them. I think its an easy excuse for the caretakers to see the movie when they should be working. It bothers me that normal spectators have to deal with this.
And while we are on the subject of bringing people along, there is also the subject of little children who come along to PG-13 or higher rated movies. I can understand them wanting to see movies like "Harry Potter" because, after all, young kids get much joy out of the books. I once went to the movies, even though now I completely forget what I was seeing, but I remember two little kids behind me incessantly walking around and tugging on my shirt, and screaming at parts that weren't scary. The ratings are there for a reason and when adults bring along their kids to movies that they aren't supposed to be seeing, they aren't seeing the movie for the children's benefits.
Another thing that bothers me about seeing movies is the previews. I am not talking about the trailers for movies that are coming up, because those, I am quite interested in seeing. But, its the commercials for cars, body spray, cell phones, shoes, television shows, and companies that really bother me. Number one, if I wanted to see this stuff, I would turn on my television, where I am actually forced to watch them. But I don't want to do that in a theater. I don't care about the newest SUV or phone. I have my own phone. Obviously I had a ride to get to the theater. I don't care about some stupid new car. You know, why hasn't anyone said anything before? Do you know one person who likes watching commercials when seeing a movie? I don't.

One of the many annoying people in the movie theater^

If you love Steve Carell as much as I do, see this movie.^

Life
Tomorrow will be the last day before I am going to be summoned for jury duty. It will be my first time. I honestly have no idea what to expect, and when I ask people, they mostly respond with a, "I've never had to go before. I was always lucky." See, this isn't very reassuring. I guess I could always look at it in a positive light. I can think of myself pretty important if I got to observe a case like in 12 Angry Men. I can be the Henry Fonda of the crowd who doubted the suspect. Is that what they do in jury duty? I am so clueless with all this stuff. I really need like a book titled "Things You Will Need to Know For Living Your Life and How to Accomplish Them." Is there a book out there like that? So many of my problems would be solved if I had one. That would have really helped me last year when I was trying to figure out college applications and all that jazz. It was super frustrating. But, I guess in the long run, it's a good thing I figured everything out myself.

Music
I'm getting so bad at doing new posts daily but as someone who is just starting out, it's really hard to think of things to write about. I really need to talk to some of these people who relentlessly write on about topics that are interesting. They really know what they are doing.
Today, as I woke up at the wrong time of... 8:00 am, I was perusing the internet until I found myself at the myspace music pages. I know a lot of people who hate them, but I absolutely love going to these sites. It gives me the pleasure of finding new artists, listening to their music, and deciding whether I want to listen to them more, absolutely free. It's really the best way to go. I have come to love artists like Tofer Brown, whose melodic acoustic tunes are quite fascinating, and bands like We The Living, who sound like any other band out there today, but yet, their site is the one I keep going to. I actually found a new artist today who I think is really good for someone who doesn't have a lot of fans on their site. The project's name is Civalias. The one and only guy of the band is named Adam Stidham and he only has four songs on his site. Yet, he sounds professional, reminding me of artists like Damien Rice and Coldplay. In one of his blogs, he performs with frontman of We The Living, John Paul Roney, headlining the song 'Viva La Vida', the current hit by Coldplay. I have to say, it certainly can rival the original. A song I'd have to recommend would be "My Oh My". Everyone should go listen to this. It's really good.

Another attempt
I've been so clueless lately about the world and everything going on, besides the major events, like that earthquake that occurred in China, that I was astonished to learn today about things that were happening in my own country! I am talking about the Midwest, which is being tragically flooded as we speak due to heavy rainwater and levy damages. It's sad to hear about, especially since I was always led to believe, by who or what I have no idea, that bad things couldn't happen to me. "We live in an established country man! ( I would always say to myself)." Things shouldn't go wrong. Except they do, quite often really, if we all think about it. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, it was surreal to think that the situation was as dire as it was. I remember seeing thousands of people, homeless, just standing in the streets looking helpless and confused, as if it was a third world country and people were scrambling to survive. Now, with all these crazy global warming trends occurring, it seems like the world is crumbling beneath us.
There are still people out there who don't believe at all in things like global warming and the polar ice caps melting. It's really a problem of politics, and sometimes people get the idea that scientists aren't supporting the theories. Sure, things aren't very conclusive on whether or not this is a natural or manmade phenomena, but to an extent, we have to take some responsibility for our actions. I don't want to go into details here, because there are numerous sources people can look to, such as the documentary 'An Inconvenient Truth' or issues of Newsweek. The things is, yes, we have done things that are causing the Earth to react. How many times have we seen billowing plumes of toxic waste being released into the skies? You can't just have that stuff out there and not expect things to happen.
I took a class last semester called Exploration of Space. The things I learned in that class were really eye-opening, something I wasn't expecting from a basic physics class. The professor taught us about the planet Venus, known for its outrageously high temperatures and ongoing storms, which is an example of what could happen if Earth was to lose control of the delicate balance of an ecosystem it sustains. From there, he taught us about what was happening. He was an esteemed scientist, at least to the University, and I believed every word he said, from how the North Pole was expected to be melted by this summer, of 2008, of how there were small organisms thriving off the coast of Africa which could deplete the oxygen around them, and how much had already started to happen. Whether we caused it or not, it's happening. We need change, and things like violent storms and massive earthquakes wouldn't devastate millions of innocent people. Yes, storms do happen every once in a while, but at the intensity at which they are continuing, no.

Movie Time
I have been dealing with this problem of losing internet connection for long periods of time, such as days. It is quite annoying, I have to say, for someone who is used to having it, without delay, 8 months out of the year. It is kind of difficult to have a daily blog when I don't have the internet. It defeats the purpose somewhat.
Anyway the question I am asking myself today is... am I the only person out there who is getting frustrated with the movie industry lately?
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of cinema, no matter the genre, whether its romance, comedy, or even horror. It's limited on the horror though. There is only so much bloodshed and superstition a girl can take. Movies like 'Saw' are entertaining enough for me. There aren't any scary "beings" around, the bloodshed is only in selective parts, and a real background occurs throughout the length of the movie. I know a lot of critics out there aren't really into the whole 'Saw' franchise, but for someone who likes a little horror but only to an extent, it's really pretty good.
Have you noticed that movies aren't original anymore? Sure, there are plenty of screenwriters working furiously behind the camera, but most films center around either old forgotten movies that cry out for a remake, whether they were horrendous before or not, comic book heroes, and sequels. There are also television series jumping to the big screen, such as 'High School Musical' and 'Sex and the City', musicals, such as 'Mamma Mia' and 'Hairspray', and literary adaptations, such as 'Pride & Prejudice'. I can't say that these films don't entertain me. Quite the opposite really. All the above mentioned give me pleasure, but sometimes movies rub me in the wrong way.
For instance, when the Spiderman 3 trailer came out, I was buzzed for months anticipating the genius work that went into the past two films. I totally loved the whole 'superhero' angle that directors were going for, like Batman Begins, which made me realize that sometimes movies were done right. For this, I was expecting something brilliant, a step in a new direction, which is what I felt when viewing the second film. What I got instead was a letdown by characters whom had taken my heart. At that point, I knew I could never look at the series the same way. If they just had stopped at the second one, it would have been amazing. The guy got the girl, he was saving the day with her by his side, the villain had subsided, and even though it wasn't shown, the audience somewhat knew that Harry would eventually avenge his father. Right there, the writers could have been leaving it open, something that New Wave writers did in France back in the 30s continuing onwards for decades. But they had to be greedy for money. I've heard recently that more movies are to be expected. I don't know if I even want to watch them anymore.
The same goes with the Shrek franchise, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series. I could have killed my love for movies last summer due to all the disappointment. Why is everything going the tube? Is it really that hard to find directors and writers who can actually write for a change?
What happened to the times where people wrote amazing pieces of work? I'm not exactly the most experienced to comment on some of the greater pieces of the time, but I know from what I've seen, things need to improve.
If I ever see a rewrite of 'Pretty in Pink' or any Audrey Hepburn movie, like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', I might actually have to head out to a cave and never go to a theater again.

Day Two
Have you ever seen those commercials for Macintosh computers starring Justin Long? I've been in countless debates with some friends about them, especially those who are engaged in that awful war that is known as Mac versus PC.
First of all, they are revolved on showing PCs faults, the things that go wrong that many people encounter, and then explaining the benefits of the Mac, often letting down the character of PC. They are usually pretty funny, to those who've dealt with both computers and realized that they are indeed true.
I never realized until recently that those commercials infuriate a lot of people. It's something that to this day, I have no idea how to deal with. I have a friend who constantly argues with me that Macs cost a lot more than a standard PC, and while that is true, I have also seen said friend break three standard PCs, resulting in paying almost the same exact amount of money as it would cost to buy one Apple computer. And I am someone who has done the worst things for my computer, ie. spilling Yoohoo on the keyboard, dropping it onto the floor countless times, and breaking the disc drive (something I still have no idea about what happened), so I know what it is like to injure important parts of my computer. But the thing is, I have never had to replace my computer, or spend money for new parts, due to the amazing-ness that is Genius Bar, and also the one year warrantee that comes standard with all Macbooks.
My computer still stands, exactly the same as when I bought it, and I got excellent service when things went wrong. So while yeah, it is a lot more money for an Apple computer, it pays out in the end, because you are paying for quality. I've heard so many people exclaim in public, "God, I hate Macs." I just don't understand how people can hate a product that performs well. I've also heard that Apple consumers are like a cult, which makes no sense at all. It's just the majority of people who flock to the company that gives great service and makes amazing products, from the iPod to the newly Macbook Air.

Wise piece of advice: Don't shake the Yoo-Hoo until you're sure the cap is on.
And I still think the Mac and PC guys are friends, no matter how much people tell me otherwise.

First Post
Already it has been a month since school has let out for the summer and I am already feeling the consequences of staying home. I think that soon I might actually go insane. I guess that's what happens when someone spends eight months in a city, where something is always happening and public transportation is available, and then has to remove said self to schlepp around in the country for three months. It is almost surreal really, that I never once thought that after becoming independent and happy all that time that I would have to come back. Why wasn't that ever part of my plan? There should be some kind of therapy group for students who decide to stay home for the summer instead of renting an apartment. I don't know how everyone else does it, I really don't. Maybe its because most normal people have jobs, cars, lives...and most people that know me can tell you that I am not the most normal person in the world. I guess it is a lesson I should have learned and everything else will turn out all right. Hopefully, anyhow. I'm not really sure as to how well I will be at this 'blogging' thing, but Eileen says it will be fine, so I really hope she knows what she's talking about.
